About the Monks Well
The Monks Well is located in the heart of the historic Quin Village directly opposite the magnificent Quin Abbey, approximately 4 km from the M18 motorway, The Inn at Dromoland, Dromoland Castle and Golf Course, 18km from Shannon Airport, and 10km from Ennis town.
The Monks Well has three main parts, the pub, the cafe and the guest rooms. The pub opens Thursday to Sunday (plus bank holiday Mondays) and is focussed on events and parties. The cafe (The Monks Pantry, is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 4.30pm serving hearty breakfasts and lunches and from late March 2025 it will be offering an evening meal service from 5.30 to 9pm.
Owned and operated by the Fleming Family who also hail from Quin, the bar is managed by the experienced duo Decky Kelly (Operations), and Geraldine Crowley (Events), but it's not unusual to see Adrian floating about pretending to be busy, or Diana fussing over interior design and cleanliness with three small kids undoing her good work as she goes.
Where the welcome is always warm
A community focussed pub in the heart of the village, where friends gather and the welcome is always warm.
About our 6 Monks
Our adopted solid oak carved Monks
Perhaps the greatest stroke of luck in the Monks Well renovation in 2024/2025 was the kind offer from our friends at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh to adopt their 6 solid oak Monks statues who following a major revamp were sent to the dungeon of the hotel basement. Each Monk weighs over 80kg and is carved from a single block of Irish oak in 2006 by well known artist Fergus Costelloe in various poses.
We've had a lot of fun with these guys so far and the fun is only beginning. Sincere thanks to Brian O'Neill and Gerry Quinn at the Abbey Court who thought of us.

After extensive renovations and extension to add separate toilet facilities to the newly formed cafe and a brand new toilet block and storage to the pub, The Monks Well re-opened its doors as 3 separate businesses. The Monks Well (pub), The Monks Pantry (cafe), and The Monks Quarters (B&B) with a shared courtyard and barn for outdoor wining and dining.
After almost three years since it last closed its doors, the key to the Monks Well was passed like a baton to the Fleming family, the next custodians for this central site in the historic Quin Village. As the Monks Well is located in the heart of the village directly across the road from the new entrance to Quin Abbey, it was decided that a renovation appropriate to the importance of its position was needed to see it through to the next generation. The vision; to create 3 businesses from one, each one independent of the others, to ensure it could evolve and change to serve the needs of the village and the locality.
After over 20 years of outstanding service to the community, the Monks Well closed its doors, with Covid being just a challenge too large.
The sale of Power's Pub to Claire Titley in 1999 invigorated the village like never before. Powers was re-named the Monks Well Inn, given a cheeky cheerful logo and launched as a food pub some months later. Quickly it became a regular stop for locals and visitors alike with Claire's potato skin special being a firm favourite. The street was choc a block with cars, and the pub was standing room only, the live racing, wicked banter and great atmosphere will never be forgotten.
Powers pub which was formerly opened by one Katie Redden in 1940. According to the Limerick Leader in 1939, Katie originally from Kilorglin in county Kerry, acquired the pub.
Maria Reddan (died in Aug 27 1927 after a brief illness (connaught Tribune) of Mariah Reddan's pub.
Miss Katie Reddan of kilorglin inherited the pub from Maria.
